Choosing the economy and the environment makes good business sense because sound environmental policy also benefits the bottom line, speakers told the opening plenary session at the GLOBE 2014 international environment business conference and trade show.
“We cannot use the economy as an excuse to ignore the environment . . . (we) cannot decide that we just want to bulldoze ahead,” B.C. Premier Christy Clark told GLOBE delegates.
Business and government cannot continue to do business the way they have in the past, she said in a session titled “Embracing a Greener Global Economy.”
“We must confront and embrace change,” Clark said, adding that we can no longer say “never mind, don’t think about it. It’s not happening when it comes to climate change.”
